The nearby town of Welshpool is steeped in history, visit the Medieval Powis Castle which houses one of the finest collections of paintings and furniture in Wales or wander around their World famous garden with Italianate terraces.  Take a trip on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway or stroll along the Montgomery Canal.

Just a short journey away is the National Trust Erddig Hall, Winner of UKTV History 'Britain's Best' Historic House, with state rooms displaying original 18th and 19th-century furniture and furnishings, set within the grounds of a stunning 1,200 acre country park.
Further a field is the Roman city of Chester, still within easy reach of Brightwater Lakes, probably one of the most impressive sights being the Rows, two-tier shopping galleries which date from the Middle Ages. There are many other fine buildings, including the Cathedral, Amphitheatre and the second most photographed clock in Britain after Big Ben - The Eastgate Clock and if you have had enough of history Chester has excellent shopping facilities and wonderful bars and restaurants.
